Example #2:
METAR 191050Z 25007KT 9999 FEW025 05/M07 QI015 NOSIG
191050Z
The first group of example #2 is the date and time (DTG)
in UTC. The 2-digit (19) is the date of the current
month and the next 4-digit (1050Z) is the time in
UTC followed by the indicator Z.
25007KT
The second group of example #2 is the wind direction
and velocity where it is blowing from. The 3-digit
(360) is the wind direction measured using the
36-points of a compass and the succeeding 2-digit is
the wind velocity measure in Knots. Other European
countries use Meters Per Second.
9999
This is the visibility group. Visibility is given in
meters. If visibility is 10 kilometers or more, the
code will be 9999.
FEW025
Clouds are
given in groups telling you how much of the sky
is covered by clouds and how high those clouds
are, given in feet. It is given in 3-digits.
2500ft will be coded as 025, 25000ft will be
coded as 250. Cloud coverage of the sky is
divided into 8 logical sectors.
Cloud
coverage is given using the following
designators:
This group is the rounded figure of current
temperature and dew point in degree Celsius
separated by a forward slash. If the dew point
temperature is below zero (0), an M will be inserted
in the code.
Q1015
This group is the QNH. QNH is an international code
for the air pressure at the aerodrome reduced to sea
level. In METAR this is prefixed with the letter Q
if the QNH is given in Hectopascal (hPa), and A if
the QNH is given in inches of mercury. It is always
given in four digits, a QNH of 998 will then be
Q0998 in a METAR.
